On 2nd December 2023, during COP28 in Dubai, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) signed a Country Package for Forests, Nature and Climat (CP) with several institutions, including France (Declaration signed).

OFVi is positioned to support the scientific and capacity-building aspects in the DRC. The ambitions of the initiative respond more specifically to the following points of the CP: "Recognising the crucial role of tropical forests [...] which provide ecosystem services contributing to the achievement of international climate and biodiversity objectives, [...]. "Stressing the importance to the world of the peatlands of the Congo Basin, which are estimated to contain 30 gigatonnes of carbon, and the major role of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is home to some 120,000 km² of peatlands, in preserving these areas".

A workshop in the DRC is scheduled for 2025 to co-construct the scientific roadmap and identify the needs and partnerships that can be forged between scientists and institutions.
