Pl@ntNet formation in Cameroon

Yaoundé, Cameroon

The first training session in the use of the Pl@ntNet application took place in Yaoundé (Cameroon) during the last week of January 2025, with financial support from the IRD via the CoForFunc project.

A total of 67 people took part, most of them students from the Faculty of Science at the University of Yaoundé I (on 23 January) or staff from the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) attached either to the National Herbarium of Cameroon (on 27 January) or to the Biodiversity, Environment and Forests Division (DBEF) of IRAD (on 28 January).

During the first day of training, which took place at the École Normale Supérieure of the University of Yaoundé I, other organisations such as Bioversity International, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) and the Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) were also represented.

Murielle Simo-Droissart of the IRD, who provided the various training courses, also presented the platform on 24 January at the IRD Cameroon Representation, in the presence of the IRD Representative in Central Africa and the CIRAD Regional Director for Central Africa (a dedicated article: https://www.ird.fr/plntnet-presente-la-representation-ird-de-yaounde)

During this first training course in Yaoundé, 62 Pl@ntNet accounts were created and 452 observations corresponding to 168 species were shared on the platform
