AGEOS training webinar

AGEOS training webinar

From 16 May 2024 to 04 July 2024

On line

Several researchers involved in the initiative organised a series of 4 webinars between May and July 2024 to train around twenty Gabonese engineers and students in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for remote sensing.

Following the Workshop in Gabon which took place in November 2023 in Libreville, the Agence Gabonaise d'Etudes et d'Observations Spatiales (AGEOS) has shown a strong interest in deep learning and machine learning methods to improve forest and land use mapping in tropical environments.

In response, several researchers and students from Pillar 3 have set up a series of webinars introducing the different methods used by the various OFVi partner labs.

  • Webinar 0: General presentation of AGEOS's work (Conan Vassily Obame) and their expectations mirrored by presentations from French researchers with their results (Aurélien de Truchis, Kayrros and Bertrand Ygorra, ISPA).
  • Webinar 1: Presentation by Ibrahim Fayad (LSCE) of a general introduction to deep learning applied to remote sensing
  • Webinar 2: Presentation by Gabriel Belouze and Xianglin Zhang (LSCE) of Google Earth Engine, its interest in downloading and exploiting remote sensing data and the methods/pipelines for effective use.
  • Webinar 3: Presentation by Paul Tresson (AMAP) of the pytorch library and its benefits for both trained and untrained deep learning.

Each webinar was attended by around twenty Gabonese engineers and students. These introductions are intended to be followed by practical applications, with a number of AGEOS engineers coming to France for training. Finally, a case study will be presented in Gabon.
